A recap of Task 3 brief

After being inspired by the design work selected in task 2, use design principles and professional knowledge to create a design work.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal I chose is the theme of ocean protection, so I want to make illustrations and posters about the ocean theme. At the same time, inspired by the design works in Task 2, I want to draw mural-style works.

UNSDG

I have choose the 14th UNSDG goals " Life Below Water". It aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainably development.

Because the work I chose for task 1 is related to whales and has some mural style, I chose whales as the main body of my work, and the style is mainly in the retro color mural style.
I think that the most concerning thing about the ocean theme is the discharge of nuclear sewage, which has a great impact on the marine environment. The whale descends downward to save the ocean polluted by green nuclear sewage, and the upward shoal of living creatures expresses the growth of all things.  Through upward creatures, red vitality contrasts color with the blue-green ocean.  Composition Increase visual impact and rationalize content through asymmetric composition.  All creatures use similar colors to achieve unity.  The flowing lines of all the creatures in it cause visual movement.  The eddies formed by the ocean have continuity.  In this work, the whale is more like the guardian angel of the ocean, so I gave it a little light to illuminate the surrounding creatures and achieve the effect of being the visual center.

FEEDBACK

Week 6: Mr. Wong said that he liked my first draft more. He thought it was very detailed and the design principles were clear, so I decided to use one draft to design my final work.

Week 7: My draft is not clear enough. Mr. Wang hopes that I can make the sketch clearer and roughly write down the design principles and design concepts of the sketch.  There is also a video of my painting process to add.

REFLECTION

In this assignment, I wanted to break through myself. For the first time, I tried a completely hand-drawn style, and the composition of the work was more layered.  Especially the part about the fish school, I spent two hours carefully conceiving it. It was my first time to try this kind of dense composition, which helped me learn grouping and priority.  In drawing, I learned a hand-drawing method that I didn't know before.  In the process of making this work, I have a clearer knowledge of design principles, including how to use design principles to design. I think this is my biggest gain from this task.
