LECTURES

WEEK 5

Constructive Workflow
Emphasis on structured thinking, information organization, inspiration collection and goal setting to improve work efficiency and creativity.

Understand the Question
Key Points:
  • It is not only the answer that is important, but asking the right question.
  • Use search engines (such as Google) and critical thinking to analyze the problem.
Fill in the Blank
Methods:
  • Create an empty folder as a structural framework.
  • Gradually fill each folder to organize information.
  • Ensure that all work files are synchronized to meet the needs of each software.
Get Some Inspiration
Key Points:
  • Refer to existing works and build an inspiration library.
  • Studying excellent cases will help form your own thinking path.
Set the Parameter
Core Principles:
  • Creativity is unlimited, but there must be a direction.
  • Time is a limiting factor and needs to be used efficiently.
  • Identify your own strengths and play to your strengths.
  • The reference is just a benchmark, the final solution is the goal.

Project 1&2: ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC POSTER

This assignment will develop an infographic to present visual effects.
I need to select 1 infographic poster reference from the Internet, and redesign the poster content into an A4-sized poster based on visual hierarchy and typography through ideas and processes. I can simplify the poster design based on color, shape and pattern.
After the poster is completed, I need to make my infographic poster into a static looping animation page

Fig 1.1 Original poster

I found the original poster and then analyzed the icon. This is an infographic of the structure of an e-commerce clothing store. I analyzed the information and divided it into three categories.
    Storefront
  • Product display
  • Online store
  • Promotions and activities
    Inventory
  • Supply chain management
  • Inventory management
  • Order processing
    Delivery
  • Order processing
  • Logistics distribution
  • After-sales service

Then I looked for a lot of references, extracted some of the elements I needed and combined them with the elements of the original poster. I took the composition of one of the posters and added elements that I thought could make the picture richer. For the colors, I used the yellow, blue and pink colors of the original poster to make the whole picture more harmonious.

Fig 1.3 Moodboard

According to my own ideas, I wanted to make a 2.5D poster, so when I designed it, I used space and classification to divide and construct the areas.

Fig 1.4 Sketch

I used Adobe Illustration to make the poster, using Effect 3D Extruded Classic mode to start designing the content.
Fig 1.5 Design process line drawing

I started by designing the corner platform. I drew the shape with the pen tool and then used effects to create the platform. To start working on my content, I built it in three parts.

When I presented it to my instructor, I was asked to modify the title myself, so I added the title and the details in the picture.

Final Poster

After the poster design was finalized, I started working on the static looping animation.
I first used Photoshop's timeline to create the state of the car driving away and the movement of the discount.

Later, use AE's mask to create the effect of text gradient.

FEEDBACKS

Project 1&2

When Mr. Shamsul saw my poster, it was not yet completely finished. He thought my color and composition were good, but I focused too much on the picture, and the most important information text of the information icon was not completed. Also, my titles should be arranged in order. Although I wanted to do a little design, Mr. Shamsul thought that the reading order was very important.

REFLECTION

In this information design assignment, I deeply realized that the clarity of information communication is more important than pure visual beauty. Initially, I paid more attention to the aesthetics of the image and ignored the integrity of the information text, resulting in unclear content expression. In addition, when designing an infographic, it is necessary to ensure that the logical structure of the information is clear and combine it with appropriate typesetting to guide the audience to read.

Through this project, I learned how to find a balance between beauty and functionality. Information design is not only about creating visual appeal, but also about improving the readability and communication efficiency of information. In the future, I will pay more attention to the combination of text and images to ensure that each element can effectively serve the communication of information. This process has made me understand the core value of design more and has also allowed me to continuously improve my way of thinking and skills in practice.
